Spain playmaker Aitana Bonmati cut a fierce figure while she took her player from the Tournament Award at Euro 2025 on Sunday, minutes after her side finished second after losing a penalty shootout to England in the final.
Bolmati bounced back from an meningitis afraid of the tournament to play a crucial role in Spain’s progress to the final.
On Sunday, however, Spain struggled to unlock the defense of England and Bonmati missed her spot kick in the shootout when she dropped to another painful defeat in May after her club side Barcelona’s Champions League loss for Arsenal.
«It’s hard to see you now,» she told reporters. «Two months ago I was with the club in this situation. You have to appreciate more if things go well, we have been better on the field, not punishing,» she said.
The 27-year-old apologized to the Spanish people because he could not win against a side of England who was not a party for them in terms of skill, but he refused to give up.
«I assume that my part of my responsibility, I play for the team and for many more people. It makes no sense to play a better game and miss fines,» she said.

«For me, England is a team that can’t play and win well. There are teams that don’t need much to win.»
England took the chance that it was offered, and although Spain was on the losing side, Bonmati was philosophical.
«We have not lost any game (in 90 minutes), we got support and I feel bad about it. We won the playing field, and that is also valuable,» she explained before she promised to come back stronger.
«We are a trained team, we have already shown that we know how to overcome. We hope to reach (Euro) 2029 at full capacity and try it again.»
