Roberto Carlos was released from Brazilian hospital after heart surgery

Former Brazil and Real Madrid star Roberto Carlos was released from hospital this week after heart surgery.

Vila Nova Star Hospital made the announcement on Friday without further details.

52-year-old Roberto Carlos was diagnosed with a heart obstruction on Monday and was advised to undergo a coronary angioplasty the same day. The procedure is minimally invasive and widens blocked or narrowed heart arteries.

The former defender was initially placed in intensive care due to medical protocols.

One of the most attacking left backs of all time, Roberto Carlos won 125 caps for Brazil and played for eleven years in Madrid. He was part of the Brazilian World Cup teams that reached the final in 1998 and won in 2002. He also helped Brazil win the Copa America in 1997 and 1999.
