Roosevelt Marina to Superior – The Walk

Hello Saguaros!!! How is? 🌵

Here we go to our last section. Just a few more kilometers! We are walking from Roosevelt Marina to Superior.

Day 19:

We packed up from Trail Angel’s house in Tonto Basin and were on the trail by 8:00 am. We meet again with Aquarius and walk with him. I’m very glad I found it.

My challenge of the day is to have fun 🤩. Can I do it? I hope so. Now, I don’t need to have fun every second, just a little fun.

Oh dear, team:

I’m running out of pieces of equipment. ha ha ha. So I’m making our water filter. My mom carries a platypus that we both use. Then we used a C-noc water bladder. And we have a device that connects the platypus to the water bottle. (Very useful.) Much more useful than Sawyer, in my opinion.

There were a lot of ups and downs today and we hiked into the Superstition Wilderness. The trail was washed out for at least three miles, which slowed us down a lot, so we arrived after dark. 😩 However, there were amazing campsites. About 45 minutes later Aquarius arrived.

And yes… the day’s challenge is complete. ☑️ I really enjoyed the walk today! Wahoodie. I feel good about this one.

So tired… GN.

Day 20:

Tomorrow we turn 3 weeks. Wow, that’s a lot of walking!!! So we got up this morning and headed out for a BIG DAY OF PUSH and both LSL and I were kicking it this morning. But we climbed the big slope right after lunch and I realized I forgot to set a challenge for the day, so…yeah, sorry. 😬

I couldn’t decide if I wanted peanut butter or tuna for lunch. I chose tuna, which was good. Then we left. We go down to the valley. Then we stopped for the afternoon rest. We fill water (a lot, 5 liters). It took 45 minutes, wow! We managed to get to camp before dark!!! So much fun…then I set up the tent, made dinner outside, and then learned to spray my toothpaste everywhere so I wouldn’t leave a trace. Ha ha! Aquarius taught me.

Oh dear, team.

I’m going to talk about the Pa’lente side bag. I bought one a while ago and I love it, it’s a good color (gray), a good size and it has a strap that goes around my waist so it doesn’t bounce around. So that’s it!

See you in the morning on our last day. We will get up at 4:00 am xoxo 😚

Day 21:

I know sometimes I act like getting to the trail at 7am is a big deal, but honestly, when I know it’s the last day, I have no problem waking up at 4am and being on the trail at 5am. “10 bottles of beer on the wall, 10 bottles of beer, take one and pass it around…” Yes… we only have 10 miles left to go! I reached my 4000 count marker today. I’ve been counting all day, because it’s too exhausting to sing 99 bottles of beer in my head (my mom will start banging her head on trees if I sing that song out loud) 😛

Walking has been pretty easy and I’ve been thinking about all the foods I want when I go off trail. After a while I had to mute myself because Aquarius isn’t heading to Phoenix with us today, but he will continue on and won’t get whatever he wants to eat today.

We hiked to the Picket Post Trailhead next to Superior, which has been our ultimate goal for this fall. We did it!!!! 380 miles in 3 weeks! The rest of AZT will call us again in the spring.

My goals for this hike have been met!
1) Making a tram! ✅ Thank you Aquarius!
2) Don’t get too angry with my mom for making me carry more water. ✅ My mom said I was never mad at her for this. 😊

3) See a horny lizard. ✅ We saw the 3 cutest horny lizards! How happy! 🦎

So I accomplished my goals!!! Hurrah! I feel like this is worth dancing on… but my feet hurt too much. I hope your dreams also come true on this walk.

Thanks for reading my Arizona Trail series. Stay tuned for more information in 2026. And subscribe.

love,

PJ 🥰
