Rosenior wants a ‘culture of responsibility’ to end Chelsea’s red card problem

Manager Liam Rosenior called for a ‘culture of responsibility’ at Chelsea after they were reduced to 10 men for the second game in a row when Pedro Neto was sent off in the 2-1 Premier League defeat to Arsenal.

Neto was shown a yellow card for arguing with the referee over Arsenal’s second goal, and the Chelsea winger brought down Gabriel Martinelli less than three minutes later to earn a second yellow card.

Chelsea had drawn against 19th-placed Burnley in the previous match and were forced to concede an equalizer in extra time after Wesley Fofana received two yellow cards.

Rosenior’s side, winless in their last three Premier League games, have slipped to sixth place as they prepare for a trip to fourth-placed Aston Villa on Wednesday.

«It has to improve quickly. My job is to create a culture of accountability, where if you make a mistake, you hold your hands up and make sure it doesn’t happen again,» Rosenior told reporters on Monday.

«Pedro has apologized to the group. We will miss him for the next match. I need to see an improvement in behavior now.»

Disciplinary issues have dogged Chelsea all season, especially in September and October when they received four red cards in six games under Rosenior’s predecessor Enzo Maresca.

«We’ve had bookings for unnecessary dissent and violations. If we want to improve and get to where we want to be, we need to take a conscious step now to ensure this doesn’t happen again,» Rosenior said.
