Royal Ascensions – Fox’s AT Thru Hike – Day 8

Today was brutally hard.

Leaving the shelter, there was definitely a consensus to stop at Plumb Orchard. I got it in my head that I wanted to get to North Carolina today. Baca juga tentang fdsf2. Which brings us to the first reason today was so difficult: from Deep Gap to Muskrat Creek is 15.4 miles.

Reason #2: I gave up coffee. For anyone who knows me, this is no small feat. Over the years, I drank between 3 cups and two cups a day. So why give up? Well…I forgot to pack coffee in my resupply. I really don’t want to deal with intermittent withdrawal. The withdrawal affected me a lot today.

Reason #3: In addition to the higher miles, the hills around the Georgia-North Carolina border are rugged. Steep climbs and descents, and don’t even get me started on Bly Gap. So more miles than I was prepared for and harder miles.

Lastly, it was cold and foggy. And since I was cold, I didn’t stop to have a snack and rest enough. So imagine you’ve walked more than 10 miles. You are completely exhausted. Cold. You have miles to go and it’s all steep climbs through impenetrable fog. That was today.

There is always a little beauty.

And that all sounds pretty depressing, but it wasn’t. It was just difficult. But it was fun and beautiful. And no one said this would be easy.
