The Supreme Court of Spain confirmed a judgment on Wednesday that the former chairman of the Football Federation Luis Rubiales was guilty of sexual violence for an unsolicited kiss on the lips of the national team player Jenni Hermoso at the 2023 World Cup in Sydney.
The court rejected several appeals against the conviction and confirmed Rubiales Hermoso Hermoso without her permission during the medal recerioremony after the women of Spain had won the trophy, according to the ruling by Reuters.
Rubiales was fined more than 10,000 euros ($ 11,592) and acquitted of coercion costs in addition to three co -suspects. Officers of Justice had asked a prison sentence of two and a half years and called for a new process, both of which were rejected.

The incident led to a widespread debate about sexism in Spanish society and women’s football, so that the momentum was fueled for the «I also» movement in the country.
Rubiales argued that his actions were motivated by an uncontrollable joy, but the court ruled that his restraint with other players and those present demonstrated that he could have avoided such behavior with Hermoso.
«Because that emotion did not lead him to express his joy for so long -term by kissing the other players or the accompanying people in the box, and he stopped, he could have done this without too much trouble with the captain of the team,» the court said.
