A second man was arrested with regard to offensive social media reports that were sent to England player Jess Carter at the European Championship for Women, the police said on Thursday.
A 30-year-old from Ripley, Derbyshire, was arrested on suspicion of malignant communication and released on bail.
It follows the arrest of a 59-year-old man from Great Harwood on 28 August as part of the same investigation, the police said.
The British football police unit started an investigation after reports in July that England -Carter Carter received ‘racist and offensive messages’.

Carter, who has an Afro -American father and plays her club football for Gotham FC in the US, unveiled during Euro 2025 in Switzerland that she was racist online.
«No one should be subjected to so much disgusting abuse, and we want to make it clear that racist abuse of this nature will not be tolerated,» said Cheshire Constabulary Chief Constable Mark Roberts, the National Police Chief Council Lead for football policy.
«Everyone is responsible for what they do and say, and we want to ensure that perpetrators cannot hide behind a social media profile to post mean comments,» he added.
