Inter Milan recorded an impressive 3-1 home win over Bologna on Sunday to return to the top of Serie A in what is shaping up to be an increasingly intense title race.
With the win, Inter took the lead in the table with 39 points, one ahead of city rivals AC Milan and two ahead of Napoli, with the campaign now two games from the halfway point.
Inter laid siege to the Bologna goal for most of the first half, pouring forward wave after wave, only to be denied by an excellent goalkeeper, Federico Ravaglia, whose string of fine saves kept the score intact.
However, Inter finally took the lead six minutes before half-time when Lautaro Martinez, under the influence of a challenge, managed to slide the ball across the box to Piotr Zielinski, who struck confidently from just outside the penalty area to find the net.

Three minutes after the restart, Inter doubled their lead from a corner, while Martinez timed his run perfectly and fired a header into the net.
The attack continued minutes later when Martinez came across a crossroads with the goal gaping, but his effort crashed against the crossbar, drawing a collective gasp from the stadium.
Ravaglia produced a series of saves to prevent the deficit from widening, but the resistance finally broke in the 74th minute when Marcus Thuram made it three for Inter, shouldering a corner over the line and the Frenchman almost looked surprised by his own goal.
Santiago Castro pulled one back for Bologna seven minutes before stoppage time and scored, but Inter remained firmly in control, while Bologna had much to thank Ravaglia for keeping the scoreline respectable.
