Serie A 2025/26: Inter outscore Verona with brilliant Zielinski and late own goal

Lucky Inter Milan recorded a 2-1 victory over Hellas Verona in Serie A on Sunday, with a brilliant strike from Piotr Zielinski and a last-gasp own goal from Martin Frese sealing the victory.

The win puts Inter in third place with 21 points, equal to AS Roma and one point behind leaders Napoli. Roma played fourth-placed AC Milan later on Sunday.

Inter needed just 16 minutes to show their quality when Hakan Calhanoglu’s corner found an unmarked Zielinski on the edge of the penalty area. The Polish midfielder curled a brilliant right-footed strike into the top left corner to open the scoring.

Verona hit back five minutes before half-time when Giovane was released down the right wing and held off the Inter defense before firing a sharp, angled shot to level the score.

In first-half stoppage time, Verona almost turned the game around when a quick passing move around Inter’s penalty area ended with Gift Orban’s flick flicking past the base of the post before going wide.

The second half started at a slower pace with few clear chances until Verona launched a counter-attack that ended with Inter’s Yann Aurel Bisseck, who was fortunate to escape with only a yellow card after taking down Giovane.

In deep stoppage time, with the rain pouring down, Nicolo Barella sent a long ball into the penalty area, which deflected off Verona defender Frese and turned into the bottom corner, sealing a dramatic late winner for Inter.
