Inter Milan stayed at the top of Serie A on Sunday after a 1-0 win over Atalanta to maintain their slim lead over local rivals AC Milan.
Lautaro Martinez scored the only goal of the match in Bergamo for Inter, who lead Milan by one point at the top of the division.
The Argentine forward’s ninth goal of the competition settled an enthralling match that could have gone either way, with both teams having chances to break the deadlock before Martinez struck.
Marcus Thuram and Charles De Ketelaere had goals disallowed for offside for both teams, while Nicolo Barella squandered a big chance to score for Inter just after Luis Henrique was denied by Atalanta goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.
But when Martinez fired home from the left, after Berat Djimsiti had sloppily given away possession just outside his own penalty area, Atalanta had a tough task to avoid a second home defeat of the season.

It was an encouraging performance from Atalanta, who are a different team since Raffaele Palladino replaced Ivan Juric last month but sit in 10th place, five points off the European positions.
Atalanta would have come away with a point had Lazar Samardzic not fallen over his own feet when De Ketelaere had a brilliant chance to level with three minutes to go.
