Serie A 2025/26: Inter take lead at Roma as Bonny’s early goal sets up deadlock at top of league

Inter Milan recorded a hard-fought 1-0 win at AS Roma on Saturday, with an early strike from Ange-Yoan Bonny tightening the race at the top of Serie A.

The result denied Roma the chance to take the outright lead at the top of the table, instead leaving it level on 15 points with Inter and Napoli at the top.

Earlier in the evening, Napoli had suffered a 1-0 defeat to Torino, suffering their second league defeat of the season.

It took six minutes for Inter to break the deadlock, with Bonny driving on to a sharp pass from Nicolo Barella and burying his finish past keeper Mile Svilar.

After the break, Roma pushed forward with more effort, forcing Inter keeper Yann Sommer to make a great save from Paulo Dybala’s free kick.

Just before the end, Roma player Artem Dovbyk headed a corner kick just over the bar under pressure.

It was an even contest in the closing minutes, with both sides creating chances, and Inter came closest when Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s goal rattled the woodwork.
