The Serie A of Italy has described the criticism of a European Union on the decision on the decision to organize a regular season match between AC Milan and Como in Australia in Australia at the beginning of next year as ‘excess’.
The Italian football federation (Figc) in June granted Serie A to organize the match in Perth in Perth in February, while the San Siro Stadium in Milan is used for the Winter Olympics, although UEFA and FIFA still have to give their approval.
With Spanish clubs that Villareal and Barcelona also proposed to organize a regular Season La Liga match in the American city of Miami in December, EU sports commissioner Glenn Micallef said that the unprecedented movements were a «betrayal of fans».
«I am deeply disappointed by proposals to organize domestic league competitions outside of Europe,» wrote the Maltese official in a thread on social media platform X On Wednesday.

“It is clear to me: European matches must be played in Europe. European football must stay in Europe.
«I believe that clubs are due to their loyal fans and local communities … Moving competitions abroad is not innovation, it’s betrayal.»
In a statement, Serie A said that it was «surprised» by Micallef’s comments, and added that he underestimates «the complexity and strategic value of initiatives aimed at promoting Italian football on a world scale».
«To speak of betrayal for a single match, a total of 380 Serie A matches seems to be an excessive position, which runs the risk of feeding a populist debate,» the explanation continued.
“Taking a match abroad does not mean that the championship exports, but rather introduce a new audience to the excellence of Italian football.
«In exchange for a small sacrifice that is required from the Milan and Como fans, will (they) benefit in terms of increased visibility and popularity worldwide.»
