Serie A: Roma beat Genoa 3-1 to move up to fourth place in the standings

Roma scored three times in a one-sided first half, beating Genoa 3-1 and moving up to fourth place in Serie A.

Matías Soulé’s neatly taken goal after 13 minutes was quickly followed by an opportunistic strike from Manu Koné as the home side overwhelmed their lowly opponent on Monday.

On-loan Ireland striker Evan Ferguson pounced on a parried shot to poke the ball home and make it 3-0 just after the half hour.

Jeff Ekhator got a late consolation goal for Genoa with a deflected shot.

Roma were at risk of losing touch with the leading group after just one win in their last four games.

The result takes Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to 33 points, one point behind Napoli, two behind AC Milan and three behind leaders Inter, although all three still have a game in hand.

Genoa, meanwhile, remains 17th in the 20-team league and just two points above the relegation zone after its third straight defeat
