Roma were at risk of losing touch with the leading group after just one win in their last four games.
The result takes Gian Piero Gasperini’s side to 33 points, one point behind Napoli, two behind AC Milan and three behind leaders Inter, although all three still have a game in hand.
Genoa, meanwhile, remains 17th in the 20-team league and just two points above the relegation zone after its third straight defeat
