The second stage of the Serie B relegation Play -off between hosts Salernitana and Sampdoria was abandoned on Sunday after home fans threw smoke bombs and chairs on the field.
Sampdoria led 2-0 when the game was initially postponed in the 65th minute when Salernitana fans threw objects to the field.
Playing briefly resumed, but was eventually abandoned in the midst of chaotic scenes in the Arechi stadio.
According to Italian media, Sampdoria will probably get a 3-0 win, which would achieve a 5-0 aggregated victory and guarantee the escape from what seemed to be a certain relegation to the third layer.
Sampdoria, Italian champion in 1991, was initially degraded to series C for the first time in their 78-year history, to get a life line after the end of the season when Brescia was moored eight points, dropped it under Sampdoria and the Genoa Club a place in the decrease in degradation-play-off.
