SHT DAY 2: Cook it through the Jay Cooke State Park

I had a good amount of mileage planned for today, so we had an early start. The first business order was to deposit a vehicle at each end point. My friends Maeja and Andi did not want to walk as far as I today, so we parked my vehicle at the beginning and parked in Jay Cooke state park, which would put them 10 miles for the day. My goal was to reach the next path beyond JCSP, another 6 miles away.

It was crazy to push the day. The visibility while driving was very low, and it was difficult to prevent the windshield from tarnishing. The beginning of the path closest to the southern end is two miles away, so it requires a little departure situation. We walked in the fresh air, Foggy and in the morning to label the southern terminal on the border of Wisconsin and returned to us.

One end down, one to go!

Back in my vehicle, we had a fast snack and continued towards Jay Cooke sp. The following 6 miles of trails were pleasant and crosses, well maintained and marked. Finally we arrive at the Bridge Swing, an ordered stone bridge over the St. Louis River. However, it is not a great swing!

The «oscillating bridge» in JCSP.

An interesting thing to consider was the large number of fungi in the forest today. We would see a variety, and two steps later a totally different variety. It made us constantly searching the ground for all interesting fungi.

This fungus was great, but not even about some of the greatest we saw today.

Purple fungi! 🤯

Lunch was on a picnic table, using the facilities. I ate a croissant with salami and laughing at cow’s cheese, then I said goodbye to Maeja and Andi and headed down. For some reason, when I walked alone, I do it a little. In the fifth march now, I approached the path. Here I tried for the first time some of the steep ascents and descents, although they were short and sweet. The last mile of today’s path was right next to the St. Louis River again, and was quite covered here. I didn’t see any other hiker along the way after the JCSP Visiting Center.

Great view of the St. Louis river from the bridge.

I found my vehicle in the parking lot of the path just where the girls had put it to me, healthy and healthy. (Thank you very much for all the help with the vehicles!) I stretched, then I stacked my very sweaty being (today I was very humid, and quite warm, but who I am joking, sweaty is the rule after any walk) to the vehicle with the air conditioning and returned to Duluth.

The first business order was a shower, followed by a muffin of chocolate and chocolate sparks heated in the microwave. Yes, I am making complete use of the comfort of the city! Maeja swears for those muffins he finds in Costco, and did not disappoint.

For some reason, my greatest left to my shoe this afternoon, and I was very sore and irritated when I finished walking. I worry that this problem will continue and even may change my march if I did not bite this at the outbreak. So, as I am in a city with purchase options, we venture to find a new pair. I rose half a size, but a different style path corridor. I hope this helps! 🤞
