Singapore secured a place in the 2027 AFC Asian Cup after beating Hong Kong 2-1 in their qualifier at the Kai Tak Sports Park in Kowloon, Hong Kong on Tuesday.
It is the first time that the country has qualified for the quadrennial continental competition on merit, having previously hosted it in 1984.
It was the home side who took the lead in the 15th minute after Everton Camargo assisted Matthew Orr.
Singapore responded with two goals in five minutes after the break, with substitute Ilhan Fandi finding an equalizer in the 63rd minute before setting up the winner for Shawal Anuar.
With the victory, Singapore now has eleven points from five games, three behind Hong Kong. This means that even if Hong Kong beats India and Singapore loses to Bangladesh in their final matches of the qualifying campaign, Singapore will advance thanks to a superior head-to-head record.
