Son Heung-min breaks record for most international appearances for South Korea in friendly match against Brazil

South Korea captain Son Heung-min set another record on Friday when he started against Brazil in their international friendly at the Seoul World Cup Stadium.

Making his 137th appearance for South Korea, Son surpassed Cha Bum-kun and Hong Myung-bo as the player with the most international appearances for their country.

The former Tottenham Hotspur striker has already broken several records, including being the highest goalscorer from Asia in the Premier League and UEFA Champions League.

After helping Spurs win the Europa League last season, their first trophy in 17 years, he moved to Major League Soccer and currently plays for Los Angeles FC.

Son made his senior international debut in December 2010 and scored 53 goals. He was an integral part of the squad that reached the final of the 2015 AFC Asian Cup and also helped the U-23 side win the gold medal at the 2018 Asian Games.

Since his international debut in 2011, Son has played in all three FIFA World Cups and is likely to feature in a fourth, with South Korea having already secured a place in the next edition of the tournament, to be played in the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
