Real Betis midfielder Isco is confronted with another long spell on the sidelines after having broken his leg in a pre-season-friendly against Malaga, a cruel blow to the Spanish club that qualified for the Europa League.
The 33-year-old was trapped near the ankle and was forced to limit the field during Saturday’s game, with medical tests that confirm a broken fibula. Isco had suffered a broken leg last year in May, which made two operations to solve.
«After medical tests, he has a new, non-placed fracture in the middle third of his left Fibula. This is a new traumatic injury that is not related to the earlier injury that has been resolved,» Real Betis said in a statement on Sunday.
«The player will undergo conservative treatment in the coming weeks and his return will depend on the progress of the injury.»
Despite the missing of different matches, he was instrumental last season with 12 goals and 11 assists in all competitions when Betis finished sixth in LaLiga and reached the final of the Conference League, which she lost to Chelsea.
Isco was appointed player of the season in the Conference League and earned a return to the Spain team after an absence of six years when he was called for the Nations League.
