Spain mentions former player Sonia Bermudez as head coach of the National Team of Women

The national team of Spain replaces coach Montse Tome on Monday by former player Sonia Bermúdez.

The RFEF went to social media to announce the appointment.

She will form a duo with another former player, Iraia Iturregi, who has many years of experience on the sidelines and 402 games in the first division.

The decision was made by the board members of the Federation after Tome Spain led to the Euro 2025 final of the UEFA ladies, who lost it to England in a penalty shootout on July 27.

Tome replaced former coach Jorge Vilda after the FIFA World Cup title of the team in 2023. She led Spain to the title of the Inaugural Women’s Nations League in 2024. Her current contract with the national team was valid until the end of the month.

Tome was the first woman to coach the senior ladies team in Spain. She had been an assistant to Vilda during the World Cup and was promoted in the consequences of the non -consensual kiss of the former Federation President Luis Rubiales during the award ceremony of the World Cup in Australia.
