Suarez forbade six games for Leagues Cup Spitting Furore: Official


Inter Miami-star Luis Suarez has received a suspension of six games for his actions after the Stormy Leagues Cup defeat last weekend for the Seattle Sounders, said the disciplinary leaders of the tournament on Friday.

The 38-year-old former Uruguay, Liverpool and Barcelona star was punished for spitting on a Sounders officer after he got involved in a melee after the 0-3 loss of Miami.

A statement from the disciplinary committee of the Leagues Cup said that the suspension of Suarez would only apply to the edition of next year’s tournament, although Major League Soccer (MLS) «holds the right» to impose extra punishment.

Suarez apologized into a statement about Instagram On Thursday.

«It was a moment of great tension and frustration, where things happened immediately after the game that should not have happened, but that did not justify the reaction I had,» wrote 38-year-old Uruguayan in one Instagram story.

«I was wrong and I sincerely regret it,» he added.

Suarez’s Inter Miami teammate Sergio Busquets has also received a ban from two games. Another Inter player, Tomas Aviles, is excluded from three games.

Coaching -employee of Seattle, Steven Lenhart, is suspended for five games.
