Violent collisions between fans on the Sudamericana match on Wednesday between Independent and Universidad de Chile in Buenos Aires resulted in the second stage of the last 16 draw.
Players left the field in the second half when the concern about safety grew in the Estadio Libertadores de America. The tie was locked on 1-1 when the match was suspended, with the Chilean side liding 2-1.
The administrative body of Zuid -Mamican football (Conmebol) said that the game had been canceled because of «the lack of security guarantees of the local club and local security authorities».
It added that the case would be referred to its judicial authorities and that information about the events would be sent to the disciplinary committee.
Argentinian media reported that more than 300 Universidad de Chile fans were arrested after the collisions. Various supporters from both clubs have also suffered injuries, says Media reports.

Chile President Gabriel Boric issued a statement about social media that convicted the violence.
«What happened … is wrong in so many ways, from the violence in the stands to the obvious irresponsibility in the organization,» he wrote.
«The legal system must determine who is responsible. Now our priority as a government is to find out the condition of our countrymen who have been attacked, ensuring that they immediately receive medical help and that those who have been detained have respected their rights,» he added.
Boric said he had instructed the Chilean ambassador to visit fans at police stations and to treat in hospitals in the Argentinian capital.
In April a Chilean derby between Universidad de Chile and Colo Colo was postponed after two young fans were killed in a crush on a Copa Libertadores match.
Violence often occurs in Stadiums in Argentina, and Salvemos printing group Al Futbol (Save Football) has cataloged more than 350 football -related dead in the country in the last century.
