We moved
I have missed this forum. Life has been busy since he returned from the AT. You can remember that we sold our house while we are on the road. We had until the end of October to move. Meriwether led the position to find a new home. We were so lucky, a small Rancho -style house was preparing to be listed and our real estate agent approached the owner. We had a deal. We were also cutting our space in half, so we needed to eliminate half of our things.
Get rid of so many articles that had sat in boxes and cabinets for years felt really good. We gave a lot to local beneficial organizations, we sold a lot of baratijas online and sent some to our children. The only thing that came to the attic are things that our children will want one day, but they did not take with them when they visited him.
Prior planning
As soon as we moved, all our time we spent working and planning our summer vacations 2025. Our plan was to do the JMT or the long trail. The JMT requires permits that are difficult to obtain and a great year of snow could make the backpack difficult during our time window. This the long path was our support. At this time, part of me we would like to have chosen the long path.
We saw a lot of YouTube videos about walking through the JMT. We discover the permissions system. We saw the snow totals accumulate while we were waiting for the windows of the permit to be opened.
Planning
We have our permission! Not of any of the terms, but of the head of the path of Cottonwood Lakes, about 30 miles south of Mount Whitney. Let the planning begin.
The resupplies in the JMT are not as easy as they are for the AT. We needed to decide where our food would resume and how many days would take us to walk between the replenishment sites. Because we are not going to walk through or near any city, our entire replenishment will have to be sent by mail.
We do not want to hurry this trip, but the longer we spend on the path, the more food we have to take. We decided 3 refueling points and a maximum of 24 days on the road. 24 days were collected because most foods come in quantities that are divided into 24 well. We will make two 7 -day food haules, a 4 -day transport and a 6 -day transport. I’m fearing three of those haules.
Only something of the food
Once we gathered all our food, we had to discover how to place it in 5 gallon cubes to send us by mail. We passed almost both in frank and handling as we did at food. The JMT required much more planning than the AT.
Feelings
When we obtained our permission for the JMT, I was a bit apprehensive. The JMT crosses several mountain passes that can be covered with snow until July. Our pass is for the beginning of July. If snow is like in 2023, we will be doing the long path. Every three days I looked at the snow report.
When the snow began to melt a little earlier than normal, I began to feel a little better. At the time of this writing, we are on the way to the path and Farout users still report the need for ice axes. I do not intend to walk any path that requires an ice ax. We buy micro picos this morning, I wait for a heat wave in the area now.
It is not necessary to say that my apprehension has become and has decreased many times in recent months. This is something Meriwether really wants to do, so I will have to forget my fear of heights for a few weeks. I’m really anxious for this adventure.
