Sunil Chhetri announced that his career in India has come to an end following the Blue Tigers’ exit from the final qualifying round for the 2027 AFC Asian Cup.
Chhetri had initially announced his retirement in June 2024 after a farewell match at the Salt Lake Stadium in Kolkata.
However, he came out of retirement when the then Indian head coach Manolo Marquez asked him to make himself available for India’s matches for the 2027 Asian Cup qualifiers.
The 41-year-old is India’s highest ever goalscorer with 95 goals in 157 appearances.
Chhetri is still active in club football and recently signed a new contract with Bengaluru FC.
