Tara Dower crushes the fastest known general time on the long path

TAra Dower completed Vermont’s long path on Tuesday, August 19, ending the 272 mile path in just 3 days, 18 hours and 29 minutes. Will Peterson established the FKT previously made in 2024 at 3 days, 21 hours and 9 minutes, 2 hours and 40 minutes slower than Dower’s records.

The Long Trail – a general description

The long path follows the main crest of the green mountains and has approximately 68,000 feet of elevation gain. The road is the oldest long path of the United States, built between 1910 and 1930. Dower’s familiarity with the final 100 miles of the path, which are shared with the path of the Apalaches (AT), probably helped its effort, with it establishing the general FKT compatible with the 2,197 miles in 2024.

Although the long path is known for its rocky and resistant terrain, Dower began quickly, covering almost 80 miles in its first 24 hours. It was 140 miles after 48 hours and had completed approximately 200 miles in three days. Dower had a final nap before starting 37 miles during the hours of Monday and Tuesday morning, ending just before dawn.

FKT’s effort

Her crew manager, Megan Wilmarth, who also supported her during the AT FKT, attended the dowry. The crew also included photographers and cameramen Pete Schreiner and Emily Cameron, along with several pacemakers. According to Dower’s crew through Instagram, «he has done it! Tara Dower, also known as Candy Mama, also known as the racing car, has established a general path in general that supported FKT. We are more than proud of her and now is the time to rest a bit.»

Dower, who uses the name of the ‘Candy Mama’ path, has previously established FKTS on several other long paths. Briefly maintained the FKT supported by women on the Colorado Path of 486 miles in 2023. In 2020, he placed the FKT supported by women in the mountains of 1,175 miles to the path, and in 2022, he placed the FKT supported by women on the Benton Mackaye path of 288 miles.

Similar to her in the race, where she raised money for girls in the race, Dower used her long effort to raise funds for the Green Mountain Club, the organization that maintains the path. She has already exceeded her goal of raising $ 10,001 and continues to accept donations. here.
