The Asian Champions League matches have been postponed due to the crisis in the Middle East

The Asian Champions League Elite matches scheduled to be played in the Middle East on Monday and Tuesday have been postponed due to the ongoing conflict in the region, the Asian Football Association confirmed on Sunday.

Four matches in the round of 16 of the competition were due to be played in the United Arab Emirates and Qatar, involving clubs from those countries as well as teams from Saudi Arabia and Iran, but will now be held at a later date.

“The AFC will continue to closely monitor this rapidly evolving situation and remains resolute in ensuring the safety and security of all players, teams, officials and fans,” the league’s governing body said in a statement on Sunday.

The region has been on high alert since Saturday, when the United States and Israel launched air strikes on Iran. The Iranians retaliated by attacking targets in the region, including in the UAE, Qatar and Saudi Arabia.

Defending champions Al-Ahli of Saudi Arabia would travel to Qatar on Monday to face Al-Duhail, while Shabab Al-Ahli of the UAE would host Tractor FC of Iran wsx2.

Qatar’s Al-Sadd was scheduled to entertain Saudi Arabia’s Al-Hilal on Tuesday, while the UAE’s Al-Wahda was scheduled to host Al-Ittihad.

Matches in the Asian Champions League Two, which is in the quarter-finals, have also been affected.

Qatar’s Al-Ahli was due to host Al-Hussein of Jordan on Tuesday, while the UAE’s Al-Wasl was due to meet Cristiano Ronaldo’s Al-Nassr of Saudi Arabia, originally scheduled for Wednesday.

Matches in the eastern half of the draw in both competitions will go ahead as planned.
