The Gordon of Newcastle does not take England for granted

The wing player Anthony Gordon of England admits that he plays with a feeling of ‘paranoia’ while fighting to secure his place in the Thomas Tuchel team for next year’s World Cup.

Despite the fact that he was the 5-0-Thrashing of Serbia from Serbia, the Newcastle United Forward is well aware of the fierce competition for places, and the omission of Jude Bellingham for this month’s two internationals underlined the unpredictability of selection.

«At this level you always see the team changing, players who come in, players who leave,» said Gordon from the English camp in St. George’s Park. “You almost have to be a little paranoid that you don’t come in because it pushes you even further.

«You always have to challenge yourself because the boys with whom you compete are always at the highest level, because that is the level we play.»

World Cup qualification

England houses Wales in a friendship on Thursday in Wembley before going to Riga for a world cup qualification against Latvia, where a victory in combination with a draw in the match between Serbia and Albania would guarantee the qualification of England for the World Cup.

«I never think I was nailed in, but it is clearly a huge goal for me and one that I insist,» said the 24-year-old Gordon. “It is up to us as players to push ourselves as individuals, and that ultimately challenges the next man in our position to do it better again.

«It’s a World Cup year, and everyone seems to be flying. I think it’s more about the team. We have to concentrate on the team, it is the team that hopefully will win tournaments and the moment we start making individuals when we have a problem.»

The omission of Bellingham raised eyebrows, but Gordon rejected speculation that the location of the Real Madrid -midfielder in the team is not guaranteed.

«I think we all know that if (Bellingham) will play in, week out for Real Madrid, he will sit in the English team,» he said.

“You certainly notice that he is not here because he is such a big presence, such a big player.

«But he was injured, he had a few months, and it probably did him a bit good to be honest because he played so much football for his age (22).»

The absence of Jack Grealisk also raised questions, given the excellent start he made with Everton, and the midfielder is on top of the Premier League assists list this season.

«I don’t think it has nothing to do with them, I think they are all of their career in different stages,» Gordon said.
