Virginia is the state with most of Appaalachain Trail. I have many memories to share from my time there. Here is only another fraction of them:
Goodbye Birdie
In the morning light, I walked through the Hunding Creek mountain in Virginia. I stopped to admire an orange toad in a bed of leaves, keeping the type at the length of the arms. While doubting and I continued walking through the Awakening forests, we surprised a bird, taking it out of a bush by his side. Fast like lightning, the guy threw himself into the bird. To my astonishment and growing horror, I saw that I had caught the bird among its jaws. He proudly approached me, face full of feathers. I made it release, but it was too late … Rip, little bird.
On the banks of Trout Creek
In Trout Creek I saw the boys with whom I had been walking that day, Shaggy and Sandman/cable (a man of many names, his name of path is now banker). The boys were on the other side of the stream, in a flat rocky bench, dating in the water. With my wool bra Branwyn Merino and bent underwear as a swimsuit, I walked to the water. Slowly I began to immerse my body in the ice water and then, sliding in a rock, I completely sank. The boys began to skip rocks. I tried that my skills were missing a lot. I was happy to see men continuously omitting the anti. They were getting rocks to jump through the stream and then land in a space between the roots of a tree. Doube observed without impressing from the shore of the stream.
Stunned
Shaggy and I fight for the Brushy mountain together. It was a much more ascent at the top we saw the Audie Murphy monument. Audie Murphy, the most decorated American welder in World War II, died in a plane crash on the slopes of the mountain in 1971. The Monumnet made us think of the people we have lost in our lives. We begin to talk about the loss of our loved ones.
We were absorbed in the conversation when Shaggy, who was walking in front of Dude and I suddenly jumped back. There was a rattlesnake snake along the way! He immediately began to shake his tail fiercely. That caught the attention of a guy! I grabbed it well and took him back to avoid chasing the snake as if it were a toy to play. Shaggy told me how he almost bitted for a rattlesnake on his birthday. We wait for him to leave and then gave the area that previously occupied a large position as we passed.
Dragon dragon
I really just adore the name, Dragons Toth. What a funny mental image. I imagine that an unconscious teeth dragon flying through the air, playing with annoying tooth. The tooth goes out and lands at a top of the mountain where it remains to this day. The dragon tooth is just at Mile 702.4 of the AT. Friend and I walk to see it. It is popular to upload to the top of the tooth, posing for a photo. We did not do it, but maybe next time …
Huckleberry’s Hostel
Huckleberry walked the Apalachain path last year and decided to open an east shelter. Some men with whom the path had walked was having a meeting, making magic of trails and staying together in the shelter. They paid attention and sweets. One of the men kindly gave me a fuel boat since mine had exhausted.
It was in the bunk, a space with capes of barn converted to have bunk beds. I obtained a full size for the type and me. Weatherman was in the bunk with mine with Sinch about him. We were the only ones in Bunkhouse. For the delight of Dude, I hated too much delivery of Italian food for dinner, which means that he could help finish it. Breakfast was served at the kitchen table in the main house. Fresh fruit, eggs and cookies were delicious. Doube and I reached the road with spoons and smuggling that had eaten themselves in the courtyard the night before.
Triple crown
We walk through a field, a distrustful guy from the cows of what winds through it, before falling back into the forest. Today we would complete the «Triple Crown of Virginia», three of the most emblematic walks of the State. Dragon’s tooth was the first. McAFEE KNOB was as follows, with the Cliffs Tinker to finish it. It was a sunny blue skis day, perfect to see radical views from the peaks of the mountains. I knew that Mcafee Knob, in Mile 714.5 of the AT, was an impressive view, but I was still surprised when I went out to the rocks. There is nothing like being there in person.
Bootleg took some incredible photos of Doube and I in the outcrop of rock. We all stopped for snacks and water near the next refuge before continuing with the cliffs of Tinker in Mile 720.1. From the cliffs you can look back in McAfee Knob, it is always satisfactory to see how far you have come. I looked at the Valley below, located between the mountains and felt at the top of the world.
New shoes
Daleville, Va, in Mile 730.6, has a commercial place about 0.3 miles from the path. The disadvantage is to have to walk along a big, busy and without bliss road. Friend and I went cautiously to the outfitters. It was time to get a new pair of shoes. I stayed with the same configuration I had before, Altra Lone Peak Runners with a Superfeet template. I have barely had a blister to speak. No feet problems, only expected pain at the end of the days of great mileage. So why Cheage something good? My model solitary peak shoes 9 Light Purple 9 were pristine, I knew it wouldn’t last long, so I absorb his novelty while I could.
Hero
I took a guy to the grocery store. We entered with confidence, so nobody stopped us, but I also attribute this to its red vest, which makes it look like a service dog. In the store we found a speed that told me that Kaleidoscope was also there! I hadn’t seen her from Roan Mountain. I found her in the store, greeting her with excited greeting and a hug. It was great to see her again! We sat at a table outside a coffee, eating ice cream pints that we obtained in the grocery store. He doubted anyone who dared to walk with us and on our part, Kaleidoscope and I talked with the other hikers who passed. But above all we talked to each other, updating in the last weeks we had been separated. He reached a time when we unfortunately had to separate.
I walked 5 more Daleville to spend the night in Fullhardt Knob Shelter, Mile 735.6. On the way to the shelter, I spent the third score. He was 1/3 from the way to Katahdin! I was excited to see my progress along the way. When I arrived at the shelter and walked through the surrounding area, where people normally camped, I saw that it was empty. No one was close, he was just a friend and me. I kept waiting for another hiker to appear, but nobody did. It was mysterious. Although we were alone, I ended up enjoying loneliness and I was proud of myself for Heroinar. Making a hero is going to the city, replenishing and then leaving, all on the same day. Don’t stay the night in the city if you do a hero. It is very difficult to get out of the city once you are in it, but I did.
Flawlaash
Doube broke the waist strap. A clear design defect. The same had happened at home, before my walk. Doube had thrown so strong and so fast after a cat that the metal piece, which the belt crosses, was filled with plastic buckle with such force that interrupts it. The same happened when the guy was after another creature in the forest. When the shock of my own waist was fiercely thrown and the belt crumbled, it was angry. I was angry with the belt design, angry with myself for using my reimbursement to buy exactly the same belt again and angry with the guy for throwing so strong. Frustration tears sold in my eyes. I was glad to be alone in the forest without anyone else to see me cry. I sat next to a stream, filled water and got together. I tied the waist strap around my waist and then, and kept walking.
Good company
In Mile 779.9, I met again with Caleidoscope. I camped in Marble Spring with her and the big group with which I had been walking. The group consisted of Weast, walking with their father, two timers, then there was Mock, one, Thor, Magnum, Yellow Shoes and Signapur. I went from walking and camping with just one guy for company in recent days to be surrounded by people. I was delighted to have human partners again.
We all sit around a camp of fire talking, cooking and then having dinner. I discovered that I had the lyrics of Britney Spears of the strongest song. I had been singing: «Now it is nothing more than a mile away,» in my head every time I moved away from a destination. The other girls informed me that the letters are actually «now is nothing more than my way.» Disappointing. Although my mind was shaken by lyrical correction, I slept better than ever. I was comforted by the fact that other hikers were camped around me. If something happened in the middle of the night, they would be there to help.
