Today’s training 2006: The Trek

11.19/25

Getting ready: SF2T, 2026

Wet, hostile weather heralded the day here in the suburbs of Houston, Texas.

“Great” I thought! «The nastier the better!»

There’s unlikely to be perfect weather on any hike, and instead of getting discouraged, embrace the crap and then dress appropriately.

It is better to have and not need than to need and not have.

The humidity highlighted the delicate insect webs, the moisture seeped into my shoes, but the clothing prevented saturation.

It was great! I had the entire 9 mile hike to myself.

Wintering hawks with sharp beaks and talons, watching me; Game remains fluttering in the wind… it looked as if it had feasted on a mourning dove. Howling wolves. I saw our Crested Face-Face fly home with something big in her beak. I’m glad my little rescue dogs are safe inside.

When we walk early, we can see and sometimes hear the local wildlife.
