This morning I actually ended up sleeping a little. I don’t think I was walking until around 6 am because I kept sleeping my alarm. Although I was planning to go very far today, I still knew I had a lot of time. So, eventually, I got up, packed and put the day.
The incredible dawn this morning.
The path was really beautiful this morning and from the beginning I began to obtain epic views of Shasta. It was a really pleasant way to start the day. There were some other hikers near me. When I was in a water fountain, one of the girls that I camped nearby last night was updated. We speak for a minute or two and then continue.
Monte Shasta!
The path was quite variable during the day. Sometimes he walked along a narrow crest that almost felt like a cliff. There was a great lava face like rock on my right and excellent views open to my left. Other times I was making its way through a lush green forest with many silly deer. I find that deer in this area are too friendly. They never seem to flee when you approach them. I think they are so incredibly conditioned for hikers at this time.
This morning’s views were exceptional.
Time really flew today and did a great job by keeping my head down and enjoying myself. Later in the afternoon, I ended up in the parking area of the path. He had seen comments that sometimes a boy leaves the magic of the path in old boxes of ammunition. There was one full of first aid, but there were no snacks or anything. However, that is a really pleasant thought! It would be a murderer to find hidden first aid on the way if you were desperate by some.

Not long after that, I ended up spending a camp that is accessible to vehicles. In fact, I am quite sure I camped here in 2022. I had the memory of getting up in the morning and using the private. Because even in 2022 there were tons of distant comments that said there were bats in the bathroom. I really do not remember seeing any or maybe I saw one or two. This time, when I opened the door, I saw that the ground inside was absolutely covered with bats of bat. And all bats were curled up in the corner of the bathroom. There had to be more than 30 bats! Everything falls asleep. I opened the door with a rock and used the bathroom anyway. But it was certainly not brave enough to lock myself there with them.
Tons of small bats!
Then the day began to go down a little. I crossed a bridge and the path began to continue along a crest through a pine forest. I remembered this section of the path because there is basically no camp. There are a couple of designated sites that are marked in afar. And there are always some comments on other individual sites in which you may camp. But the options were quite limited. I started a lot of time that continued for approximately 6–7 miles. There was no water along the climb, so I filled myself just before. Once I finished the climb, I was going to descend and point to the camp in the next water source available.
This is how the path looked for a long time. There was no place to stop and camp, even if I had wanted to.
I definitely thought there would be many people camping there. But I was surprised how many people who choke on the climb. Especially because you had to bring water to the camp there. I probably went from 10 to 15 people over the course of three miles or so. Some of the campaign store sites were really great and even had cell service. What would have been incredible for a hiker who had water. Basically I had enough to overcome the climb and the following source. But I definitely didn’t have enough to prepare dinner and coffee in the morning.

Although it was a very long day and I had already gone quite far, I felt quite well. I think it’s more mental than anything. I was in a good space to let time escape and dream awake. Today was really one of the fastest unbridled I have had in years. I swear I blinked and the day had passed. Which is surprising taking into account the mileage I recorded.

I ended up going to another hiker at some point in the climb that was sitting and taking a break. We had actually met at Kennedy Meadows South the day they picked me up to return to the trail of the Apalaches. That was the first time this year I was in KMS. The name of the hikers was Timber and is a friend of Savage and Beer Run, two hikers that I know that Magic Trail really gave me on the CDT last year. Beer Run and I walked together on the Florida path when I was finishing the ECT.
I stayed with wood a little and talked to him. He was planning to go to the same camp for the night, but his feet were hurting him. After talking a little, I continued and I only had a handful more miles for the day. Finally I spent the next water source and filled at night. I was starting to get dark, but I still didn’t need a lighthouse. However, he felt so silly sitting next to the water fountain and filling my bottles as I lost the daylight. But I don’t have enough bottle capacity to carry anything more than a liter of dirty water. So I have to filter water to fill my bottles and then fill my dirty bottle too. At this time I only have 3 l capacity and has proven to be sufficient for me. He had carried a 2L CNOC water bag at the beginning of the year. But he left him for a stream a couple of months ago by accident. It was one of those moments when I almost immediately realized that I had left him behind. But it had already gone so far that it was not worth returning.
After taking the time to drink water, I continued to the designated place of the camp that was just around the corner. And when I finally looked at him, I was quite worried. I think it was a three-people store and had 4-5 tents tight in it. Before falling to see more closely, I would have bet that there was no possibility that he could have established there. There was only one viable place and was practically just in the middle of three different tents. If I had sustained my trekking post in one hand and turned in a circle, I could hit everyone’s shop while standing outside mine. But there was literally no place to go, and there were no more camps in miles.
At this point, there was almost 39 miles for the day and was ready to do it. So, at 9 pm, I configured my store directly by these other people. I felt bad for the other hikers, but I also felt bad for myself. It was a situation of loss of loss for all involved. Nobody wants to be the one who appears at 9 pm and configuring their store directly by other people when they are possibly asleep. But no one who has just made 39 miles wants to walk for a few miles until they find a place in the camp.
Once I installed the store, I entered and stood to spend the night. I had to boil water and prepare dinner because I was starving. Obviously I wanted to make the least possible noise, but a girl has to eat. After dinner, I did my stretch and go to bed a while before going to bed. My great day was definitely worth it. Now, tomorrow, I am less than 20 miles from the road where I can get hooked to Dunsmir. And it seems that I will be presented by an angel of paths called Noelle. I could even be able to pick me up at the beginning of the path, which would be incredible. After basically doing four days in a row of 40 miles in a row, more or less, I am excited to have a short day in the city tomorrow and relax.
