Tottenham Hotspur has signed Japanese defender Kota Takai on a five-year contract from J-League side Kawasaki Frontale, said the Premier League club on Tuesday.
Financial details were not announced, but British media reports said that Europa League champion Tottenham paid a fee of five million pounds ($ 6.82 million) for the 20-year-old.
Takai, a product of Frontal’s Youth Academy, was part of the side that the Asian Champions League elite title missed after a 2-0 defeat against Saudi Arabia Al-Ahli in the final in May.
He also made four performances for the Japanese national team.
Takai is the third center back to become a member of the Noord -London club this summer, which further strengthens their defense after the arrivals of Luka Vuskovic van Hajduk Split and Kevin Danso, whose loan from RC -Lens was permanently made.
Tottenham ended a 17-year-old trophy-dried last season with his Europa League victory, but also underwent his worst domestic campaign for almost half a century and finished 17th in the Premier League.
