Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur has undergone surgery on his right hamstring, a potential concern for Uruguay, five months out from the World Cup.
Bentancur suffered the injury during the 3-2 defeat at Bournemouth in the Premier League last week, Tottenham said on Tuesday.
The English club did not provide a timeline on Bentancur’s likely return, saying only that he «will now begin his rehabilitation with our medical staff.»
The FIFA World Cup, hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico, starts on June 11.

Uruguay is in a group with Spain, Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.
Tottenham are already without midfielders James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski due to their long-term injuries, while winger Mohammed Kudus is not expected to return until after the March international break due to a thigh problem.
The club from North London has been linked in the British media with a transfer for Atletico Madrid midfielder Conor Gallagher.
