Hello,
I left you last time with a question. Will I delete my social media accounts or not? When I say social media accounts I mean Instagram, Facebook, tiktok and Snapchat. The prayerful answer is a resounding yes. This whole trip, some have called it “My Pilgrimage” others, My Retreat. As true as they may seem for this great endeavor, I don’t think they are the words I would use. I see this as a way to reconnect with Jesus. A reboot so to speak. Good! there is your word A Reset. Are you happy? ha ha ha. Having social media would provide a distraction. If I feel called to return to them during the journey, then yes, but for now, this journey is between you (the reader), me, and the Big Man in the Big Blue Sky. If there was a song that described all this preparation, it has to be Jesus Take the Wheel.
So where am I with my luggage? Have I made progress? Yes and yes. I bought some more clothes and bought a plane ticket. When I bought the flight, I felt a certain sense of reality. I was inundated with a million questions and all I can say right now is that I will take it one day at a time and one step at a time. The journey ahead is long and will be more of a mental battle than a physical one. I have had my fair share of mental battles and find that I am very resilient. Maybe because of guilt. I don’t know, but it’s a strength I have. I have made it a point to plan from the first 4 days to the first week. Once completed, we move on to the next and the next until we ascend to the northern end which is in all its Katahdin glory. I will also have friends and family who will accompany me along the way. I have been very specific about who I ask because each of them means something dear to me and I have come to appreciate them as the human beings they are. I will write (with your permission) about them as time goes on. For now I’ll leave it vague. The friends I’ve befriended on Instagram who are doing exactly what I’m about to embark on have been giving updates to the group and it’s been difficult for them. I believe in them.
I’m planning to take it all in 100%. From small towns to strangers offering me food and shelter. I will say yes. Here’s why; I, like many of you, find it difficult to ask for help. It is a self-sufficiency that I have built throughout my life. Yet here I sit at the base of the giant mountain I’m about to throw myself off of and hope to God I don’t fall. To make sure that doesn’t happen, with discernment and hope I will say yes to any help that comes my way. I look forward to the friendships I will form and those I have chosen to join me in the physical sense of how we will grow closer as well. The Wild seems like a healing place to me and volunteering for 5 months of your life without the luxury and comforts of home is a little crazy, but aren’t we all a little crazy? If you say no, you’re lying (laughs). I’m thinking about writing two more times this month. The last one will be when I leave Arizona and head to Georgia to start The Quest.
Please comment, subscribe, and let me know what you’d like me to write about along the way.
Yours on the journey
