Winter training options
At my age, 73 years old, maintaining muscles and avoiding injuries is equivalent to surviving.
Being a “fossil,” I also invested in a “Senior” National Parks pass, which allows me free or greatly reduced entry.
It is terribly cold and damp here; difficult to motivate.
Big Bend National Park-’24 to the south
It’s time to travel to one of my favorites: Big Bend National Park.
The park, located about 300 miles south of El Paso, a city in far western Texas, is warm, clear, unique, huge, and pleasantly uncrowded in the North American winter months.
ALL in Big Bend NP it evolved to prick, stab, cut, burn, chop and dehydrate; damage fragile skin or kill.
One HAS TO Take precautions by dressing appropriately, carrying plenty of water and food, and carefully examining everything you wear, sleep on, or pause on.
If you’re camping, shoes and sleeping bags are potential homes for nocturnal creatures. Self-relief is dangerous.
Casual usually equals death, disappointment, or disaster.
One has to organize. Big Bend is very popular during our winter and requires bad luck or advance planning for entry. The Bend also offers many expensive human comforts. There is NO medical facilities and the vehicle must be in optimal condition and full of gasoline.
If I survive, I will tell you everything!
