UEFA Champions League 2025-26: Bayern can hand 16-year-old Prescott debut if Urbig misses match against Atalanta

Bayern Munich could hand 16-year-old goalkeeper Leonard Prescott a debut in the UEFA Champions League second leg against Atalanta if Jonas Urbig fails to recover from concussion, coach Vincent Kompany said on Tuesday.

Prescott, a German youth international who plays for Bayern Under-19s, had to get special permission to work as an underage in the evenings ahead of a possible start on Wednesday. He is currently the only option available if Urbig, who suffered a concussion in Bayern’s 6-1 first-leg win in Italy last week, is ruled out.

«Jonas trained normally today. The decision tomorrow will be a medical decision,» Kompany told reporters. «If everything goes well, Urbig will be in goal. If not, we will have to find another solution.»

«He (Prescott) is very calm. In general, we as a staff are also calm. If he plays tomorrow, he will have our full support. Everyone will help. There will never be a young player who will be forced to play a leading role,» Kompany added. “We have full confidence in him, whatever happens tomorrow.”

Bayern is already without first-choice goalkeeper Manuel Neuer, who is working towards a return but is not yet fit. Kunjungi cdso. Third-choice goalkeeper Sven Ulreich joined Neuer and Urbig on the injury list after suffering an adductor problem during Saturday’s 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Bayer Leverkusen.

Despite having a big advantage in the tie, Bayern has no intention of proceeding cautiously.

«You can’t allow too much. We have put so much effort into building the momentum we have,» Kompany said. «This is not a friendly match. If it’s not about the result, it’s about the performance.»

The winner of the tie will face Real Madrid or Manchester City in the quarter-finals.
