The final of the Men’s Champions League goes three hours ahead to a kick -off of 6 pm in Central Europe, UEFA said Thursday.
Better for families and children to attend and watch on television, use public transport after the game and for fans to party in host cities after the game, the European football body said.
The earlier start will be used at the next final on Saturday 30 May in Puskas Arena in Budapest, Hungary. The final has been played on Saturday since 2010.
The kick -off from 9 p.m. in recent years meant a competition that went to extra time and a penalty shootout would hardly end up for the local time at midnight.
«The new kick -off time also corresponds to a more accessible broadcast window, so that the last range reaches an even wider television and digital audience worldwide, with a special focus on involving younger viewers,» UEFA said in a statement.
The decision was made after conversations with the Voetbal Supporters Europa Group, who is the official contact person of UEFA about Fankwesties.
«An earlier kick-off makes day trips more achievable, reduces travel stress and enables fans to enjoy the opportunity to enjoy logistics in the late night,» said FSE director Ronan Evain.
