UEFA Champions League 2025-26: Kairat Verbijstert Celtic in Shootout; Bodo/Glimt, Pafos earn the first UCL spots


Former European Celtic champion left the UEFA Champions League 2025-26 in the qualifications after a 3-piece penalty shootout defeat in Kazakhstan’s Kairat Almaty on Tuesday, after two aimless legs in the play-off draw.

Kairat will compete in the competition for the first time, while the Pafos of Norway Bodo/Glimt and Cyprus have also obtained debut performances after coming through the Play -Offs.

The Night of Celtic ended in disappointment because it missed three penalties in the shootout, Daiben Maeda failed with the decisive Spot-Kick.

The Slugfest of a competition went in extra time with neither parties who find the net and few general opportunities, following the first stage in Glasgow.

Luke McCowan van Celtic came close to finding a winner in the 112nd minute, but his effort at a short distance was brilliantly weaked by Kairat goalkeeper Temirlan Anarbekov.

The semi-finalist Bodo/Glimt last season last season reached the competition stage of the competition despite a 2-1 loss in the Sturm Graz of Austria, because the dominant 5-0 home wins a 6-2 total triumph last week.

Norway will have a team in the competition for the first time since 2007, when Rosenborg was pronounced.

In Cyprus, Pafos celebrated to reach the competition phase after he had equipped Red Star Belgrade 3-2.
