UEFA hits Marseille with partial stadium closure due to problems with fans

UEFA has imposed a partial stadium closure on Marseille following a series of incidents in the 1-0 defeat at home to Atalanta in the Champions League, European football’s governing body announced on Saturday.

Home fans at the Stade Velodrome had lit flares, thrown projectiles and used lasers on November 5.

UEFA fined Marseille 71,000 euros ($82,500) and ordered them to close part of the south stand for the Champions League match against Newcastle on November 25.

Goalkeeping coach Alexandre Salvat received a two-match suspension for insulting a referee during the match against Atalanta.
