Donald Trump, the President of the United States, became the first recipient of the FIFA Peace Prize on Friday before the 2026 World Cup draw in Washington.
The award, called the FIFA Peace Prize, recognizes «exceptional actions for peace», the football governing body had previously said.
«A leader must care about the well-being of peoples, we want to unite peoples and Mr. President, you deserve this first prize for what you have accomplished and accomplished. And you can always count on my support and that of the football community,» FIFA President Gianni Infantino said after presenting the award to Trump.
Trump has had a close relationship with Infantino, receiving the award two months after being passed over for the Nobel Peace Prize. FIFA recently added another link to Trump by appointing his daughter Ivanka to the board of a $100 million education project funded in part by 2026 World Cup ticket sales.
