On Monday, players of the Euro 2025 team of England were presented the shirts of their first clubs in honor of the teams where their career started and the coaches and volunteers.
The lion ribbons, who will start the defense of their European championship title in Switzerland next week, received the surprise in St George’s Park where they train.
The 26 different shirts represented each level, from Grassroots clubs such as Alnwick Town FC (Lucy Bronze), St Martins AC (Maya le Tissier) and Brandon Groves AFC (Michelle Agyemang) to professional academies in teams such as Villarreal CF (Hannah Hampton).
About 150 coaches and current players of the 26 clubs represented were invited to Monday’s event.
No two players came from the same club.
«I often say to the team:
“All players have had a different trip, but their love for the sport started in their first club.
«For them to wear the shirt of their very first club and to have many people who were the key to their development during training, is really special.»
England takes the shirts to the base camp in Switzerland.
It plays Jamaica in a shipping game on Sunday at the King Power Stadium of Leicester and then starts on the euros on 5 July against France in Group D.
