Wafcon 2024: South Africa beats Ghana 2-0; Mali Pips Tanzania in the African head of the ladies


South Africa, the Ladies Africa Cup of Nations (Wafcon) champion, started his title defense on Monday with a 2-0 win over Ghana at the Honneur Stadium in Oujda, Morocco.

The Miners Opened the score from the place in the 28th minute for Linda Motlhalo after Noxolo Cesane – her 50th game for South Africa – was contaminated in the box by Grace Asantewaa.

South Africa did not settle for the lead and doubled it within six minutes.

Lebohang Ramalepe founded Jermaine Seoposen from the right, who then defeated Cynthia Konlan in her nearby post. The Montrey striker had the chance to double her lead in the 63rd minute when she was played behind her.

But her shot went wide.

In the meantime, Ghana looked out of shape in the first half, but showed much more intention in the second half. Alice Kusi’s effort rattled the woodwork in the 60th minute, before the head of Evelyn Badu hit the framework of the goal 10 minutes from the end of the control time.

In the other group C match, Mali Tanzania defeated 1-0 in Berkane, where Saratou Traoré scored the winner in the first minute of the first half of the stopping time.

Mali then plays Ghana in Berkane, while South Africa will record Tanzania four days later in the second match day of the group.
