Waiting for thunder in the presidential range

This morning, Taco and I packed and left the camp pleasant and early. Today comes rain, so hope is to be in Gorham before it arrives. Luckily for us, we have a quite easy morning ahead! The path is mainly downhill while we headed towards the alternative route around the Monteses cats.

There is a bridge along the red line that has been considered structurally not solid. So at this time, the only way to transmit is to vadicate the river. That can become dangerously high when it has rained recently. And it has certainly rained recently. I have done the Wildcats before, so I personally do not feel inclined to make the red line when the ATC establishes an alternative. This also means that we will reach the road a little faster too. If I already have to make a short day due to rain and storms in the presidential ones, then it could be the shortest possible day! In addition, I am exhausted and I could use the inactivity time honestly.

Heading towards the alternative route, which turns the Montesses cats.

The path was still a bit difficult and rugged to start. But as the morning progressed, it became a charming road with just obstacles. This alternative route would cross the 16 highway and then follow it briefly. Then, once we reached the path where the route entered the forest, we would begin to try to hook.

The diversion path was a bit rocky sometimes. But towards the end, it became a really pleasant and flat route.

We hooked for about 10-15 minutes without luck. And traffic was mainly directed in the other direction. So I checked by Capricho and I saw a comment on a local guide that made trips for $ 10! I called him and he responded immediately. Then he said he would be to get us in about 10 minutes. That could not have worked better. We wait for the beginning of the path and the stew came and we grab very fast. Then he took us to the city and left us in McDonald’s. It was still too early to try to register in a room somewhere. And we had no idea where we could stay.

Following the detour!

While Stew led us, I decided to ask if I could be tomorrow morning. I want to return to the road as soon as possible to start the presidential tour. It takes time and an early start is the safest movement. And here, Stew said he really wanted to fish early tomorrow. So, as soon as possible, the better! It wasn’t even 8:30 am still and we had already arrived in the city and we had scheduled a trip outside the city for tomorrow morning. This day could not have a better note.

The beginning of the path where Taco and I picked up and took us to Gorham.

In McDonald’s we had breakfast and decided where to stay. I called The Quality Inn and the lady said we could come and register at any time. And it was just 9 in the morning! That sold me in the Quality Inn sure. The worst part of arriving in the early city is to burn hours of time waiting to register in a room. That is why I generally prefer to enter the city the night before, instead of making a 5-8 miles. But going further was not an option last night. We were running irregular as it is.

McDonald’s for breakfast!

Then, after breakfast, we walk towards the Quality Inn and we place ourselves. I have a lot of writing and video work to do, so I took my own room to help with that. Then I took a shower and put my electronics to load. And then I was lying on the bed, clean and comfortable, at 10 am this is a solid day. There are thunderstorms and rain that reach the area, so it would not be safe to cross Mount Washington today. And if I have to take the day off, this is definitely the way to do it.

Later, in the afternoon, I linked with Taco again and we went together to the Asian buffet. There are two Asian buffets in the city, but apparently the dynasty, also known as Dy-Nase, is no longer the one to go. That’s where I ate in 2023, but this time I tried the other in the city. Which was so good! Taco and I sat there for years by filling our faces. Then, on the way back, I took some general dollar drinks at night. And he went to the room to do some writing and video work.

Some of my Chinese buffet Festín.

A little more Chinese buffet.

It was difficult to balance relaxation and work today. I am absolutely spent! My body likes to walk from 10 to 13 hours a day. Especially depending on the terrain. But lately I had to walk 12 to 15 hours a day to maintain the same mileage or less. That definitely happens to me. I know I’m very close to ending the east coast. And I can update my dream while traveling to the west. I may have to slip a zero day to return from walking here in southern Maine and the Whites. However, I won it. If I had not been killing to keep these miles, this section would have taken one or two additional days safely.

I love a fortune cookie.

In the room, I mostly rested my body and my mind. I did a little passive work, but nothing. Then, later, at night, I regrouped with taco to wash the clothes and take dinner. There was a pizza right at the end of the street that looked good. We took the clothes and then heading there. I also have a soup bowl and a pizza. Then he drank a lot of frost lemonade.

Taco and I gathered and dinner at Mr. Pizza.

It was nice to be sitting and talking with Taco. These last days have been much better thanks to him. I don’t know how I would have achieved otherwise, really.

After dinner, I returned to the room and Taco treated with clothes. He offered to do so so he could rest and make more edition. Which was very friendly from him! I did not do a lot of things, but I did enough to get some content in the next few days. I am depositing of being completely trapped on my travel day in a couple of days. Then I ended up calling him a rather early night. Tomorrow Stew is picking us around 5:30 am so we can follow the road early and go up and overcome the presidential tour. Tomorrow will be my last full day on the path of the Apalaches! And I couldn’t be more excited.

Today I met a southern hiker that I met at Shaws Hostel. She sent me a photo of her diary where she drew a photo of me today.
