For over 20 years, I have dreamed of hiking the Appalachian Trail; In just eight months, that dream becomes a reality.
In July 2026, after more than 30 years in the USAF, I will hang up my flight suit, zip up my blue suit in a garment bag, turn in my active duty ID card, and turn in all my government-issued cell phones. I’ll trade all that gear for trail runners, hiking poles, and a steady diet of ramen noodles.
From Mount Katahdin in Maine, I will begin a southbound journey (SOBO) to Springer Mountain, Georgia: 2,190 miles of solitude, challenges, and discoveries. This hike is more than a weekend getaway; It is my opportunity to disconnect, decompress and restore body and mind, it is my Discovery duty.
I hope to share my experiences, the good times and the challenging times (there are no bad times, I’m climbing the AT for love!). I hope you’ll follow me as I embark on this adventure of a lifetime, spending 4.5 months living in solitude, meeting new people, and enjoying everything the trail has to offer.
