West Highland Way - Everyone has to start somewhere

West Highland Way sounded feasible. It is not so long (96 miles), so there is no large time commitment, it is in the same country (therefore, I am based on the United Kingdom) reducing travel costs, I did not have to camp (it is not necessary to carry so many night showers), and I know several people who have already walked it. In addition, it is in Scotland, so it will not be hot (more probably very humid) and will not imply many steep climbs. They sold me.

In February 2025, I made the decision to prove in May 2025 how I would walk for several consecutive days in West Highway Way (WHW) that begins north of Glasgow in Milngavie and ends at Fort William. The maximum he had done before was three days along the Coast of the Coast of Norfolk (in England).

It was also promoted by a plan to walk a longer route later in the year, this being the test.

Camp vs accommodation

From the beginning I decided that I was not camping. I did not have the majority of the team and, as I said, Scotland is often wet and simply did not want to have days of walking in the rain to have to configure a tent in the rain, have clothes that do not dry and I feel that never escape the wet. I knew that if that happened, it would affect me. Then it meant that it would not have the flexibility of walking as much or as little as it wanted one day, since the WHW is very popular and with limited accommodation, especially if in a budget, it reserves very much anticipated.

Where to stop at night?

Having examined the different ways in which the route can be divided, to a large extent based on the availability of accommodation, I decided to point six days of walking with a mix of lengths of 13 miles to 23 miles. My night stops were in: Balmaha, Inverseid, Crianlarich, Bridge of Orchy and Kinlochleven. Without desire to spend the night in Fort William (I had been before and I simply did not find everything), I chose to reserve the train of Caledonian back to London for my end day.

Accommodation, trip and permission of the reserved work, now I had three months to walk and find out what to take.

Note: I reserved all my accommodation and traveled to a large extent, since it was much cheaper, but there are many companies that offer a planned service. The WHW website previously linked is very useful for information on your trip.
