Hello,

Thank you first of all for reading this; these words on a page that tells you why I’m doing this. Honestly, I make a bet on myself and getting closer to the good Lord Almighty.

Where did this idea come from?

Well, you have to go back two years and imagine being rocked back and forth by the waves as the ship I was working on headed to its next port of call. It was 2 in the morning and I shot out of bed with the words Appalachian Trail written inside the walls of my mind. I pondered this over the next few months: would this be part of it, all of it, a day or two? Which direction am I going, NOBO or SOBO? Lord, help him boy! I chose NOBO because it is the most popular and I have the ability to make friends wherever I go. Then I started telling my parents (they didn’t take me seriously) (pirate tail when the pirate tells the prisoners to walk the plank. I am the pirate, my parents, my prisoners…). I was persistent and they finally caught on and I started seeing books in my mailbox. Mainly from a worried mom. My father was worried but, like most fathers, he wanted to see if I was really serious. I’m dad, I am.

So here I am in the year the trip will take place. I’m nervous and afraid, but it’s a healthy kind of fear. If nothing scares you a bit, is it worth a try? (the answer is no, by the way, in case you’re guessing). I found myself trying to plan for every possible scenario. I realized that’s crazy, so I forced myself to back off and just research and then decide what I need. I have the tent, sleeping bag, jacket, stove, scoop, ditch tool, trail runners, a backpack, and I even registered my start date with the Appalachian Trail Conservancy. Now I need to close…everything else. I still have a little time left but the window is closing. I have faith in myself that I will make it.

You’re probably wondering… How did Sentayo get here? You, yes, you, the humble reader who digests every word and morsal wondering, how did I find myself reading his most amazing words that feed my soul and my spirit? (By the way, you’re welcome). So the other night I was finishing Appalachian Trials: Zach Davis. If you don’t know, get it because I think it will open your eyes to what I’m really getting into (let’s be honest, I won’t know either until the time comes). In it he mentions The Trek and his own blog. I reviewed both and kept coming back to The-Trek. I scrolled down and saw Become a Blogger. Well, the rest is history. I applied and they said yes. Shortest proposal if you ever asked me. We don’t even know each other.

Trying to convey to you, dear reader, that my tone of voice is difficult to achieve. Making a vlog would probably be easier (because I tend to be animated when telling stories), but I wanted to challenge myself and work on my writing skills. I’m more theatrical than serious (although I have my serious moments) and my mind works very fast but leans more towards movies. So in future posts I will do my best to say a movie and a scene so you can look it up on YouTube and know what I mean. Right now, I can’t think of any movies, but I think as time gets closer, The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring will be my main attraction. stay tuned

Over the past year, I’ve had the privilege of talking to a few hikers. They provided their wisdom and guided me to some good equipment mentioned above.

When I’m doing my walk, I’ll do my walk. I won’t get back the time I’ll be able to spend while I’m out there dreaming about burgers, beers, and pizza. I know the road ahead is long. I know I’m moving away from social amenities (like a bed for one), but this is a challenge I set for myself and literally dreamed about, and I want YOU to be a part of the journey. So what do you say? If you like, go ahead and subscribe.

There you have it, when and how it all started and where I am currently on my journey. As time gets closer I’ll do another blog, but for now I think this is fine. If you have any suggestions, I am open to knowing how to improve this blog because this is the first… EVER.

Sincerely,

sentay
