Liverpool manager Arne Slot greeted the resilience of his team after a 1-0 win over Premier League rival Arsenal in Anfield on Sunday.
Dominik Szoboszlai’s excellent 83rd -minute free kick ensured the victory in a match briefly about opportunities but high on defensive discipline. The result retained the perfect start of Liverpool in the season, after victories against Bournemouth and Newcastle, and Arsenal handed his first defeat after a serious summer expenditure of £ 260 million.
«I am most satisfied with the team’s mentality,» said Slot. «We have had to take quite a few new players with us. And then you have to start the season against Bournemouth and then Newcastle, and then play Arsenal at home, which is definitely one of the three or four most difficult games of the season … and already do what we do.»
Slot admitted that Liverpool was not flawless, but praised the drive and the willingness to work: «We are not (but) everyone wants to work so hard to get a result about the line.» He added and quoted Michael Jordan: «The more difficult we work, the more happiness we get.»
The manager has chosen Szoboszlai, who made an impression in an unexpected right -wing role. «He understands what a Liverpool player should look like. If you wear this shirt, you have to give everything, regardless of what position you play,» Slot said. «Incredible play of him in a position that he probably only played two or three times in his life.»
Thinking about the game, Slot said: «If we play this game 10 times more in the same way, I think it is a draw eight times. We win it once and Arsenal win it once.»
