The Blue Tigers have moved up five places in the latest FIFA rankings following their 2-1 win over Hong Kong, China in the final match of the AFC Asian Cup 2027 qualifiers on Tuesday.
India rose from 141st to 136th in the latest rankings – the third highest rise in Asia, along with Myanmar and Laos.
Ryan Williams and Akash Mishra found the back of the net in the first and second half respectively as India recorded their only win of the qualifiers. It was also head coach Khalid Jamil’s first win on home soil.

Despite beating China’s Hong Kong, India failed to secure a spot at the 2027 AFC Asian Cup and missed out on the continental showpiece for the first time in 11 years.
The Blue Tigers finished the qualifiers bottom of the group with five points from six games, behind Bangladesh (5), Hong Kong (8) and Singapore (14).
The lowest FIFA ranking India has achieved is 173 in March 2015.
