Real Madrid announced on Monday that Alvaro Arbeloa will take over as head coach of the club after Xabi Alonso left the role following a 2-3 defeat to Barcelona in the Spanish Super Cup final in Saudi Arabia.
Arbeloa, a former Madrid player, has been Castilla’s coach since June 2025. As of 2020, he has spent his entire coaching career in Real Madrid’s youth academy. He coached the Under-14 A during the 2020-21 season, the Under-16 during the 2021-2022 season and the Under-19 from 2022 to 2025.
As Under-19 coach, he won the treble in the 2022-2023 season (League, Copa del Rey and Champions Cup) and the League in the 2024-2025 season.
