Since I decided I wanted to hike the Appalachian Trail, I have read numerous articles and books stating that one of the most important preparatory tasks is to discover your «WHY.» I mean, why on earth would I want to subject myself to cold, heat, rain/snow, wind, dangerous water crossings, stinging insects, wild bugs, pain, hunger, loneliness, and a host of other trail trials?
