Why did Malaysia withdraw from Cafa Nations Cup 2025?

Malaysia has withdrawn from the Cafa Nations Cup 2025 due to logistical challenges and the unavailability of players, Football Association Malaysia (FAM) announced on Wednesday.

«Although we were initially honored and enthusiastic to participate in the Cafa Nations Cup, recent changes to the Tournamentema that now fall slightly outside the official FIFA International window, introduced important challenges that influence the availability of players, logistics and general willingness to performance,» the Fam said.

The tournament, organized by Tadjikistan and Uzbekistan, is planned between August 29 and September 8, which is outside the official FIFA calendar. As a result, clubs around the world are not the assignment to release players for national team matches, which is a big challenge for the Malaya Tiger.

“We have players in top competitions around the world, Spain, Argentina, Colombia and Japan. Bring them to Tajikistan on time to perform at the level that we demand is not realistic under the current window,

Then there is the impact on logistics, recovery and budget. I would never want to compromise the well -being of our players or enter a tournament, not at full strength, «said Peter Cklamovski, head coach of Malaysia.

«This is an important, strategic decision. We shift our full focus to the well -prepared of the September window and ensure that we are ready to perform at our best in October and November, especially with important games such as Laos and Nepal.»
