Why was Sunil Chhetri omitted from India Camp? Coach Khalid Jamil explains

The coach of the Indian men’s football team, Khalid Jamil, clarified that although he left Sunil Chhetri from the national camp, the door was ‘always open to him’.

Jamil, appointed as India coach earlier this month, announced a list of 35 probably prior to the Cafa Nations Cup, where the Blue Tigers will meet on 29 August 1 and 4 September on August 29, 1 and 4 September.

Although the List Co-captain Guilt Singh had returned to the team, Sunil Chhetri, the most important goal scorer in the country, missed at international level.

«Sunil (Chhetri) is a role model for Indian football, and the door is always open to him. He is not there in the camp because we play a tournament, which will essentially serve as a preparation for our Asian cup wagons scores, and I want to try a few other players,» said Jamil.

Jamil had brought Northeast United and Jamshedpur FC to the semi -final of the Indian Super League as the only Indian head coach in the most important division of the country. After the exit of Manolo Marquez, he only took the role of head coach of India exclusively and separated himself with Jamshedpur.

Under Marquez, Chhetri had retired to help the team in the Asian Cup qualifications. However, he could hardly help, with the team with Bangladesh and loses against Hong Kong.

And Jamil’s plans indicate that he can miss the qualifications against Singapore – at home and away – later this year.

«I had a conversation with him (Chhetri) about the same. It is always a pleasure to have a player like him in the team,» Jamil added.

India will train in Bengaluru from 15 to 25 August before he flies to hisor, Tadjikistan, for the Nations Cup. It currently has 22 players in the camp, with the remaining 13 who join the team after their Durand Cup obligations.
